Baran-Baran [bäɾän bäɾän] ~ [bälän bälän], occasionally known as Xalichu Barani [zäɾit͡ɕɯ bäɾäni] ~ [zälit͡ɕɯ bäläni] "Barani Xali language" is a language isolate and the indigenous language of the Xali. it has mostly died in favor of the Khingan language Xalese (Xalichu Khinkan). it is occasionally called Xalese or Xalinese to differentiate it from Xalichu Khinkan.

Baran-Baran has manual percussive consonants; consonants made by snapping (right: [Ϲ] left: [Ͻ], clapping [ꓘ], or slapping (right: [S] left: [Ϩ]) the leg or thigh. these consonants differ depending on volume, whether it's the left or right hand (snap/slap), and position (slap). whether a consonant is considered "left" or "right" depends on the other person's point of view; a snap with the right hand is considered a "left" consonant.

some may slap their stomach, face, or rear for comedic effect.

for those who cannot snap-clap-slap for any reason, one can use dental, bilabial, and lateral clicks in their place, and move their heads to either side to distinguish laterality.
